School facilities
Our school offers a range of facilities designed to support students’ learning, wellbeing, and development. Below are some highlights of the spaces and programs available to enrich your child’s experience.
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program
At Banksia Park School R-6, we proudly offer the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program — a hands-on learning experience where students grow, harvest, prepare, and share fresh, seasonal food.
This program helps students make healthy food choices while developing vital life skills like teamwork, responsibility, and sustainability. Through active participation in the garden and kitchen, students gain a deeper understanding of where food comes from and the importance of healthy eating. They also learn collaboration, meal preparation, and clean-up skills.
A special highlight is the shared meal, which fosters community, conversation, and mutual respect. The program supports learning across the curriculum, including Science, and nurtures curiosity, pride, and a lifelong love of food and learning.

The Nest
The Nest is a dedicated self-regulation space designed to support students in managing their emotions and building emotional resilience. Staffed by trained Student Support Officers, it provides a calm, welcoming environment where students can take a break, reflect, and use practical strategies to help regulate their feelings.
Guided by the Zones of Regulation framework, students learn to identify their emotional state and choose appropriate tools — such as breathing techniques, sensory items, or quiet reflection — to regain focus and readiness for learning.
Students can access The Nest through scheduled visits or as walk-ins when needed, ensuring timely and responsive support.
The Nest plays a vital role in fostering emotional wellbeing and helping students develop the self-awareness and self-management skills necessary for success, both inside and outside the classroom.
Purposeful Play Room
Our Purposeful Play Room is a dedicated space for Reception to Year 2 students, aimed at developing oral language, vocabulary, and social skills through engaging play-based activities.
In this environment, students participate in language-rich experiences that encourage conversation, storytelling, questioning, and collaboration — building confidence in speaking and listening, and laying a strong foundation for literacy.
Purposeful play also nurtures curiosity and a love of learning, while promoting the development of both gross and fine motor skills through hands-on, active exploration.
The room also promotes imagination and love for learning, while supporting gross and fine motor development through active exploration. By fostering communication, problem-solving, and coordination, the Purposeful Play Room helps students thrive both academically and socially.
