Curriculum

At Banksia Park School R-6, our lessons follow the South Australian Primary curriculum. This means students learn a wide range of subjects, including:

  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • The Arts
  • Technologies
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Languages.

We use this curriculum to plan lessons, check how students are going, share progress with parents, and support students’ wellbeing.

Our teaching helps students become active learners who enjoy their lessons and get ready for the future. We also focus on social and emotional learning, helping students develop emotional awareness, resilience, and good social skills so they grow into well-rounded individuals.

Assessment and reporting

At Banksia Park School R-6, we are dedicated to delivering a high-quality education that nurtures the growth and development of every student. A central part of this commitment is our focus on assessment and reporting, which helps guide our teaching and ensures each child reaches their full potential.

Assessment is an essential part of learning. It allows teachers to identify each student’s strengths and areas for improvement, enabling us to tailor instruction to meet individual needs. Using the South Australian Curriculum, we conduct regular assessments across a range of learning areas. These insights inform our teaching strategies, helping us create a supportive, engaging, and challenging learning environment.

Reporting is equally vital. It provides students and families with clear, meaningful feedback on academic progress. Our reporting processes are transparent and informative, designed to keep families well-informed about their child’s achievements and growth areas. This open communication fosters a shared understanding of learning goals and supports students throughout their educational journey.

Partnerships with families

At Banksia Park School R-6, we believe that strong partnerships between the school and families are essential for student success. By working together, we can create a supportive network that encourages students to thrive both academically and personally.

We actively engage families through regular communication, parent-teacher meetings, and community events. These opportunities encourage parents and caregivers to become involved in their child’s education, collaborate with teachers, and share in setting and achieving learning goals.

Fostering these connections helps create a sense of belonging and shared responsibility for student outcomes. We warmly invite families to participate in school activities, provide feedback, and maintain open dialogue with our staff. Together, we can create a caring environment that supports the holistic development of every student.

Ultimately, our focus on assessment, reporting, and strong family-school partnerships forms the foundation of our educational approach. By working together, we ensure each child receives the support and guidance they need to thrive.

Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum

The Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum (KS:CPC) is required for all children and young people in our school. It’s taught each year by teachers who have completed a full-day KS:CPC training course.

It teaches children to:

  • recognise abuse and tell a trusted adult about it
  • understand what touching is appropriate and inappropriate
  • understand ways of keeping themselves safe.
