Specialist programs
At Banksia Park School R-6, our Specialist Learning Programs in The Arts, Physical Education (PE), and Science offer engaging, curriculum-aligned experiences that support the holistic development of every student.
These specialist programs complement our core curriculum and enrich learning experiences, supporting social, emotional, and cognitive growth. They encourage students to become confident, respectful, and curious learners prepared for the future.
The Arts
Our Arts program includes music, drama, dance, and visual arts, inspiring students to explore their creativity and self-expression. Through engaging activities, students develop confidence, empathy, and a sense of identity while responding to and creating artworks.
Physical Education
Our PE curriculum promotes fitness, teamwork, and skill development. Students participate in a variety of movement activities designed to foster resilience, respect, and confidence. In Years 5 and 6, students have opportunities to participate in SAPSASA sporting competitions, further enhancing their teamwork and leadership skills.
Science
In Science, students nurture curiosity and critical thinking through hands-on investigations and scientific inquiry. They explore patterns, relationships, and phenomena, developing problem-solving skills and environmental awareness. Many students participate in the Mark Oliphant Science Awards, showcasing their scientific creativity and understanding.
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program
We’re proud to offer the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program – a hands-on learning experience where students grow, harvest, prepare, and share fresh food. This program teaches healthy eating, teamwork, responsibility, and sustainability. Students learn where food comes from and develop life skills like cooking, collaboration, and clean-up.
A special part of the program is sharing a meal together, which builds community and mutual respect. It supports learning across subjects like Science and fosters curiosity, pride, and a love for healthy food.

Time2Play
At Banksia Park School R–6, play is not an optional extra—it’s a vital part of learning and wellbeing. Over the past five years, we’ve shifted from a nature-based playgroup to a whole-school commitment to unstructured, authentic play experiences. Play helps every child feel included, happy, and ready to learn, no matter their background.
